Position Summary

Reigate Grammar School Phnom Penh (RGSPP) is seeking an inspirational and experienced Khmer Teacher to deliver high-quality Khmer language and culture education within the school. The role involves shaping the Khmer curriculum, developing engaging lessons, monitoring student progress, and fostering a love of language learning and Cambodian culture among students.

The Khmer Teacher will be responsible for curriculum planning, assessment, student engagement, and co-curricular activities related to Khmer, ensuring that students develop strong language, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.


As a valued member of the academic team, the postholder will contribute to the academic, pastoral, and co-curricular life of the school, ensuring that students benefit from a well-rounded and inspiring education in line with RGSPP’s values of Discovery, Opportunity, Virtue, and Excellence (DOVE).

Key Responsibilities

Khmer Curriculum Leadership


  • Develop, implement, and oversee the Khmer curriculum, ensuring alignment with national and international best practices.

  • Deliver engaging, dynamic, and interactive lessons that promote language proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

  • Use creative and culturally enriching teaching strategies to engage students and enhance their understanding of Khmer and Cambodian culture.

  • Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning, providing effective feedback and support to ensure student progress.

  • Implement effective student assessment and tracking methods, analysing results to inform teaching and intervention strategies.

  • Encourage and promote an appreciation of Cambodian culture through integrated learning activities.

  • Stay informed of developments and best practices in language education and share insights with colleagues.

  • Manage and organise Khmer teaching resources, ensuring access to high-quality learning materials and digital tools.


Curriculum Development & Assessment


  • Design and implement engaging Schemes of Work, ensuring alignment with national standards.

  • Stay up to date with national and international curriculum developments, adapting and refining the curriculum as needed.

  • Organise, administer, and monitor the setting and marking of internal assessments and examinations.

  • Provide information on Khmer courses of study for internal and external purposes, including prospectuses, options booklets, and the school website.

  • Lead on Khmer enrichment activities, including participation in cultural events, language competitions, and co-curricular initiatives.


Professional Development & Staff Support


  • Engage in professional development and training to enhance teaching practice and stay informed of educational developments.

  • Share good practice and innovative teaching strategies with colleagues.

  • Provide mentorship and support for newly qualified or newly appointed staff as required.

  • Pastoral & Student Well-being

  • Actively promote student well-being, ensuring that all learners feel challenged, supported, and motivated in their Khmer studies.

  • Implement effective differentiation strategies to support students with diverse learning needs, including SEND, EAL, and gifted learners.

  • Provide additional academic support, including intervention sessions and extra help for students preparing for assessments.


Co-Curricular & Whole School Curriculum


  • Develop co-curricular opportunities related to Khmer, such as language clubs, cultural activities, and competitions.

  • Organise trips, workshops, and cultural events to enhance student engagement with Khmer language and culture.

  • Play an active role in the pastoral life of the school, acting as a tutor or mentor to students.

  • Contribute to the wider school community, assisting in whole-school events, assemblies, and student showcases.


Operational & Administrative Responsibilities


  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessment data, and curriculum documentation.

  • Ensure that all department activities comply with Health & Safety regulations.

  • Support student recruitment and transition by promoting Khmer within the school and to prospective families.

  • Assist with open days, information sessions, and marketing materials related to Khmer education at RGSPP.

  • Develop and maintain links with external educational organisations to promote Khmer excellence.

Qualifications & Experience


  • A degree in Khmer, Cambodian Studies, Education, or a related field.

  • Experience in teaching Khmer within a school setting.

  • A proven track record in raising student achievement in Khmer.

  • Experience preparing students for language assessments is desirable.

  • Experience in organising cultural or language events is an advantage.
