Position Summary

The Teaching Assistant/Receptionist plays a dual role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning in the classroom, while also serving as the welcoming first point of contact for parents, visitors, and pupils at the school reception. This position requires warmth, professionalism, flexibility, and a strong commitment to the school’s values of Discovery, Opportunity, Virtue, and Excellence (DOVE).

Key Responsibilities

A. Classroom Support

  • Assist the class teacher in preparing, resourcing, and delivering lessons.

  • Support individuals and small groups of pupils with their learning, ensuring inclusion for all abilities.

  • Help to manage classroom behaviour positively, following the school’s behaviour policy.

  • Supervise children during transitions, breaks, lunch, and other duties as required.

  • Provide support for children with additional needs, under the guidance of the class teacher.

  • Assist with display work, classroom organisation, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

B. Reception & Administrative Duties

  • Act as the first point of contact at the Primary school reception, greeting parents, pupils, and visitors warmly and professionally.

  • Manage phone calls, emails, and face-to-face enquiries efficiently and in line with safeguarding expectations.

  • Ensure visitors are signed in/out and safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.

  • Support the organisation of appointments, meetings, and events, liaising with staff and parents as needed.

  • Assist with general administrative tasks (e.g. photocopying, filing, updating registers, maintaining records).
