The successful candidate will be instrumental in establishing a vibrant, inclusive learning space that fosters a love of reading, supports academic inquiry, and contributes to the intellectual life of the school. Working with students across Early Years to Senior School, the Librarian will collaborate with teaching and leadership teams to deliver high-quality literacy initiatives, resource management, and research support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Library Management & Operations

  • Set up, organise, and maintain all library resources (print, digital, and multimedia) at the start of each academic term and year.

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the school library, ensuring it functions as a vibrant hub for reading, research, and independent learning.

  • Ensure the library space is welcoming, well-organised, safe, and conducive to learning.

  • Work with the Operations and Facilities teams to maintain security, health and safety, and cleanliness in the library.

  • Curriculum & Academic Support

  • Collaborate with teachers and Heads of Department to support curriculum delivery with relevant and engaging resources.

  • Develop and deliver library orientation and research skills sessions across the school, including scheduled instruction in Library and Information Literacy for Upper Primary and Secondary students.

  • Contribute to cross-curricular learning by supporting inquiry-based learning and reading for understanding.

  • Promote critical thinking, academic honesty, and responsible digital citizenship.

  • Resource Management & Systems

  • Catalogue and manage all acquisitions, subscriptions, and inventory using library management systems.

  • Liaise with the academic team regarding potential resource acquisitions and communicate updates on new materials.

  • Track and maintain accurate records of procurement, invoices, and usage reports in line with school policy.

  • Work towards introducing Accelerated Reader or a similar programme, supporting reading development and data tracking across year groups.

  • Reading Culture & Literacy Promotion

  • Champion reading for pleasure and help foster a school-wide reading culture.

  • Plan and lead events such as Book Week, author visits, reading challenges, and book fairs.

  • Collaborate with the English Department and wider teaching staff to embed reading initiatives across the school.

  • Create engaging displays and update reading boards with student reviews, themed collections, and new titles.

  • Inclusion, Culture & Global Citizenship

  • Ensure the library supports multilingual learners and represents a diverse range of voices, cultures, and perspectives.

  • Contribute to cultural awareness across the school by supporting celebrations such as Khmer New Year, Chinese New Year, and other global festivals through themed resources and displays.

  • Support the integration of the library into RGSPP’s Global Citizenship and DOVE values programmes.

  • Community & Student Engagement

  • Support pupils in developing independent learning skills, including how to find, evaluate, and use information effectively.

  • Engage with Student Leadership groups and House teams to ensure student voice is reflected in the library space and resources.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Co-Curricular Activities to explore opportunities for ECAs that promote literacy, reading clubs, and research-based competitions.
